Create telling the time exercises

Set up activities for learning to tell the time: the pupil moves the hands on an analogue clock or writes down the time shown.

Start with whole hours and move on to half hours and quarters at your class’s own pace. Feedback is instant and there is nothing to mark by hand.

How to create this exercise

1. Choose the clock type: a free clock or a checked task.
2. Choose the difficulty: whole hours only, or hours and minutes.
3. Set the time the task starts from.
4. Write the instruction shown at the top of the page.

Tip: With a free clock the pupil can turn the hands and notice for themselves how the hour and minute hands move together. That is hard to grasp from a picture alone.
